Cooking at Home to Save Money

New Orleans: Display case of prepared meals in...

Image via Wikipedia

Like most people, one of my dreams was to have a personal cook, someone that each day when I returned home from work would have a meal hot, ready on the table for me. I could even deal with having my personal cook prepare gourmet meals for the entire week and I just heat them up each night, but this isn’t going to be happening soon. In this economy everyone is thinking of saving money and cooking light.

My wife and I use to eat out about 3 time a week, lately we’ve tried to keep it to once a week or maybe once every two weeks. For the amount of money we were spending eating out we could buy 2-3 meals and have leftovers for our “fend for yourself nights”.

Each week when I’m at my local grocery store, I notice more and more people buying the store brand of items, bulk boxes to save money and even alot of people buying cookbooks or taking cooking classes.

One way I’ve found to save a little money but you still don’t have to cook every night is pre-made meals from your local grocery store. These meals are meant to be either put into the stove or microwave and are ready within minutes. It’s a bit more expensive than eating in but you still save money by not going to a restaurant. Taking your lunch a couple days a week can also help, but always give yourself a day or so just to get away from the office.

Here are a few other sites with helpful tips for saving money by dining in.

Halloween Costume Safety

With Halloween just around the corner, many parents are looking for ideas and information on Halloween Costume Safety. Here are a few tips and even tricks to keep your childs Halloween safe.

The Halloween Costume
When dealing with a dog costume, pirate costume or a Disney costume there are many things to make sure you and your family have the safest year possible. A couple days before the Halloween parties and trick-or-treating have your own little dress up party, during the dress up check to see if your child’s costume fits correctly. The length should come above the shoes because tripping and falling is the leading cause of accidental injuries on Halloween.

Check that the costume is made of fire-retardent material with many candles used in pumpkins and for spooky lighting an accident could easily happen. While checking the costume material, look over the entire costume, if there aren’t bright colors, add strips of reflective tape to the front and back of all costumes, including their Halloween candy bag. You may even go that extra step and sew a name tag with your address into the Child’s costume.

Props and accessories should be made of a flexible material. They should not be sharp or heavy.

The halloween mask should fit well, the eye holes should large enough to see out of and easily see to the sides of them, you can always cut the holes larger. Wigs and beards should fit properly and should not cover ears, nose or mouth. If your child is wearing makeup, you may want to try a small spot on the back of their neck before Halloween Night to make sure they are not allergic, when purchasing makeup, make sure it is labeled non-toxic. However, some children break out in a rash with the heavy petroleum-based makeups.

Whether you are buying your halloween costumes for kids or looking for costume ideas for a home made costume, have a safe and memorable Holiday.

How to Buy Webkinz Off Ebay

First, what is a webkinz, I know may people don’t know this and have just been given the task of finding a Webkinz that isn’t sold in stores any longer. According to the website:

Webkinz pets are lovable plush pets that each come with a unique Secret Code that lets you enter Webkinz World and play with a virtual version of your pet.

Now, were do we find them if we can’t find them in the store any longer? The Internet! I would start a web search, remember ebay isn’t the only place to find used or pre-bought items on the net. Go to www.google.com and type in +buy +webkinz , adding the plus sign before each will make sure both words are in your search. With the search you should be able to find at least 3-4 places that are selling the Webkins animal you’ve been wanting. Now use these sites and ebay to compare prices and always remember shipping! one of the biggest ebay scams is to add 3-4 dollars to shipping than is needed, it’s just more profit in their hands. If possible I will always try to find a seller that has the shipping form from the post office on their site, this will show the true shipping cost. I should cost no more than 3.00 to ship a webkinz! Being a stuffed doll, they are very light.
Unless you’re looking for a rare webkinz than you should have to pay more than 20.00 for one, people are buying then off the net and at wholesalers for 10-14.00 and then turning around and selling then on ebay for 30.00 plus 10.00 shipping.. Do Not Fall For This! that is unless you really have to have it and don’t care what you’re paying.
Just remember use other sites to compare prices, is it new, has the code been used? these are all good questions to ask yourself and the seller if you’re thinking of buying off ebay. Other than that, happy ebaying !
